About Sponsorship
Give Me Wings is a sponsor-a-child program focusing on building futures for orphans and impoverished children. For only $0.65 per day, you can help build a child's future by providing the child an education, sufficient sustenance, and other daily needs such as food, clothing, etc. The $0.65 will help fund the following for each child:
In order for a child to qualify to be in the program, the child's age must range from 0 to 17 years old. Once the child becomes 18, he/she no longer qualifies to be sponsored. If the child has living parents, the parents must be in economic difficulty where the child is malnourished, without healthcare, and no opportunity for an education if the child is not enrolled in this program. If the child is an orphan, he/she qualifies for the program.
85% of every $0.65 will go directly in the service of the sponsored child in the form of food / nutrition, clothing, education, and sufficient healthcare needs.
1. The sponsored child will be provided with adequate clothing and a minimum of 10 cups of rice per week. The 10 cups (cup-size equivalent to a can of condensed milk) of rice will be passed out to the child or the accompanying parent(s) of the child to provide for the sponsored child. The parent(s) must ensure that the child will be taken care of in regard to food with the 10 cups of rice per week.
2. The sponsored child must receive adequate care in regard to his/her health. For example but not limited to; vaccinations and vitamins if available.
3. The sponsored school- aged child will attend school and perform satisfactorily to be in this program. Out of a scale of 1 to 10 (Vietnamese grading system), the child must attain a minimum average performance of 5. The child must attend at the minimum of 90% of the total school days.
15% of every $0.65 will go towards Good Tidings Charity’s Operating Funds. The operating funds are utilized in the following way:
1. To provide a monthly $50 stipend for each operating manager in Vietnam. Currently, Fr. Huu is our Central Region Operating Manager. There shall only be three operating managers in the program: North, Central, and South.
2. Fees from sponsorship donation through PayPal.
3. Money transfer fees to Vietnam.
4. Operating costs for the transportation of rice, approved field trips and extracurricular activities, etc. that help the sponsored children expand their horizons.
5. Special needs of the program such as providing bikes as a means of transportation for children who are too far away from school, a small gift to the child’s immediate family who is grieving from a death in the family to provide some relief, and extra clothing and school supplies if the needs arise.
6. Advertising and marketing of the program here in the US through prints, church and temples’ bulletins, TV and radio commercials.
7. Server fees for the website and other fees pertaining to operating the program and unforeseen needs such as medical emergency of the sponsored child.
Because the program was developed under the notion that the only effective way in solving poverty and social ills is to establish a future in each child through education, clothing, nutrition, and medical well-being, each child must be focused on individually in order to build a future that bears good fruit. Loosely paraphrasing a proverb, Give Me Wings teaches a child to fish so that he may feed himself for a lifetime.
As such, to establish the highest possibility of success in every sponsored child, the program requires the full cooperation of the region’s operating manager, the caretaker of the child, and the child himself/herself in adherence to the program’s requirements. The child will be visited by the region’s operating manager or any designated personnel a minimum of once every 30 days to survey the child’s well-being or assess any extraordinary needs because the well-being of the child must be ensured in order for the possibility of a future to be built. However, first and foremost, the child, who is at the age of reason, must want to be in the program and comply with all requirements by displaying efforts in wanting to build a future for himself/herself. As such, out of a scale of 1 to 10 (Vietnamese grading system), the child must attain a minimum average performance of 5 and attends a minimum of 90% of the total school days. If the child is absent from school, he/she must have a written note from the parent/guardian informing the operating manager or designated personnel the reason of his/her absence. If the child does not have a parent/guardian, the operating manager or a designated assistant must take upon this duty at the discretion of the operating manager. A report to Good Tidings Charity must be made about the child every 6 months, a grade and school attendance must be included in this report. The report will be made available to the child’s sponsor as well.
In addition, the goal of the program is to establish a relationship between the child and his/her sponsor. As such, if the child can write, he/she is required to write to the sponsor at the minimum of once per 6 months. The contents of these letters cannot be for the purpose of asking for more money or gifts. The letter will be approved by the region’s operating manager and sent to Good Tidings Charity. We will then make it available to the child’s sponsor. In this way, only Good Tidings Charity has access to the sponsor's contact information. At no time shall a Region Manager of "Give Me Wings" or anyone volunteering/working for "Give Me Wings" may request for a sponsor’s contact information, even if he/she meets the sponsor in person.
The program also encourages and makes available for the sponsor to visit the child in Vietnam if he/he chooses. In this way, the sponsor will be able to see and experience the development of a future that he/she is helping to build. We ask that the sponsor who wishes to visit the child to contact us so that we may make arrangements with the region’s operating manager in Vietnam.
The Give Me Wings Program currently operates in the central region of Vietnam. We are hoping to expand to the north and south regions soon. Please consider giving one of the children in our Give Me Wings Sponsor-A-Child Program a future.

Tôi là Linh mục Gioakim Nguyễn Chí Hữu, Chịu chức linh mục ngày 29-06-2001. Phụ trách Giáo xứ Phước Tượng, Giáo phận Huế.
Giáo xứ Phước Tượng thuộc vùng sâu, vùng xa của Huyện Phú Lộc, cách Thành phố Huế 50km về phía Nam. Người dân ở đây sống chủ yếu bằng nghề nông và đi làm thuê. Và ở vùng này hầu như năm nào cũng có lũ lụt và bão tố nên đời sống của dân ở đây quá nghèo và thiếu thốn đủ điều, nhất là không có điều kiện để cho con cái đến trường.
Ðứng trước tình cảnh đó và trực diện với tình hình thất học, mù chữ của trẻ em nghèo ở vùng sâu, vùng xa này. Tôi và hai anh em cùng với các anh em trong Hội Từ Thiện Niềm Vui ao ước thực hiện dự án khuyến học với tiêu đề là ”CHƯƠNG TRÌNH CHẮP CÁNH”, nhằm giúp đỡ trẻ em nghèo, thất học có thể đến trường. Hy vọng chương trình này sẽ chắp thêm đôi cách cho các em nghèo hướng về tương lai, trở thành những người có ích cho gia đình và xã hội.
Chương trình Chắp Cánh này đã được chúng tôi thực hiện Hai năm và đang bước vào năm thứ 3. Chương trình chúng tôi không giao tiền trực tiếp cho gia đình các em vì có những trường hợp cha mẹ sẽ tiêu vào chuyện khác nên đến khi nộp học thì các em không có tiền nộp. Chúng tôi sẽ trực tiếp lo cho các em, bằng cách là hàng tháng đem đến cho mỗi em 10kg gạo, rồi trực tiếp đến trường nộp học phí, mua bảo hiểm...và mỗi năm cho các em đi tham quan một nơi để các em có cơ hội mở mang thêm...

Chúng tôi - Lm. Nguyễn Chí Hữu và Hội Từ Thiện Niềm Vui là những người trực tiếp nhận tiền hỗ trợ của Quý Vị và chuyển tiền đến các em bằng cách như trình bày trên. Hằng năm, vào dịp tổng kết năm học, chúng tôi sẽ làm đúc kết sổ chi tiêu để gởi đến quý vị.
Xin chân thành cám ơn Quý Ân Nhân đã hỗ trợ chúng tôi trong việc giúp trẻ em nghèo có điều kiện đi học ba năm nay và chúng tôi cũng hy vọng có thêm nhiều Vị Aân Nhân nữa để thêm nhiều em nghèo có cơ hội đến trường. Ước mong việc làm của chúng ta sẽ góp phần mở con đường mới, chắp thêm đôi cách cho các em nghèo ở Việt Nam bay vào tương lai.
